Directing Philosophy | Collaboration. Creativity. Communication.
My passion for becoming a director bloomed because of my love and passion for telling stories as a performer and my experiences at the production meeting and rehearsal room table as a stage manager. Seeing fierce artists collaborate and the incredible directors lead them inspired me. I strive to create productions that will plant provoking thoughts, water emotions, and hold a mirror up to the world and realities we experience each day. Collaboration with others is what I crave and am obsessed with in every production. I look forward to when new discoveries are found together by playing during the rehearsal process or when the production team problem solves perfecting the execution of that “theatre magic moment” in each show.
No matter the piece, I will also look for finding the heart and authenticity of character and genuine human interaction both on the stage and off. I know the best productions come from grounded and experienced creative teams and casts that are open to finding answers together and work towards the creation of a vision that will illuminate the play and welcome creative ideas to be shared throughout the entire process to lead to the best possible production.
In my work in stage management, I also know the key to any successful production is effective communication. I approach every new production and process as an opportunity to continue my theatrical learning by asking questions and will never be director with all the answers. Important to my directing philosophy is establishing a working environment that is open, safe, and positive. My hope as a director is to collaborate, communicate, and creativity mount a production that inspires both audiences and artists that will drive conversation and change.
Thank you.
